Welcome to my blog! Who knows what will become of it — for now, it’s mainly going to be about my new novel, A Fine Ending, which you can read excerpts and deleted passages from elsewhere on this website.
I plan on eventually adding to the “Writing” section a lot more writing of mine from over the years — out of print stuff, articles that appeared in various zines and magazines, more deleted chapters from my novel, etc. Quite a lot of my other writing is already online at www.fishpiss.com , but there’s much more to come.
This blog will be a little more off-the-cuff and reflective than what appears in the “Writing” section. At first, it might come off as somewhat nostalgic, too: my novel is set in the 1990s, and I expect to post a lot about the real 1990s Montreal in this blog. The novel is fiction, after all — a great many places and typical events and situations from that time never made their way into the book. Also, most of what I was up to during those years is quite different from the narrator’s experiences (even though he has the same name as me!)
I hope that people who were in Montreal at the time will enjoy the book and this website, and I also hope that they add their own recollections of that time in the form of comments to my blog (or even photos and other paraphernalia!)
I’m also curious to find out whether readers who are in their 20s in Montreal today are living a similar lifestyle to that lived by the book’s twenty-something characters in the mid-90s.
Well, I guess we’ll see how it all turns out. And maybe I’ll see you at my book launch next Tuesday! Bye for now,
